LASIK is the most popular vision correction surgery in the country, with more than one million Americans undergoing the procedure each year.
What is LASIK?
LASIK is a surgical treatment used to correct refractive errors and produce clear vision by reshaping the cornea. LASIK can treat several vision problems, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism, and reduce patient’s dependency on contact lenses and glasses.
LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. While that may sound like a serious and daunting procedure, LASIK is actually a very quick outpatient surgery.
LASIK Procedure
During LASIK eye surgery, Epic Vision surgeons begin by creating a hinged flap in the cornea with a mechanical microkeratome (a blade device) or with the IntraLase® laser (a computer-guided laser). The cornea is then reshaped with an excimer laser and the hinged flap is replaced.
The recovery time for LASIK is very short with little residual discomfort. In addition, many patients experience 20/20 vision or better following the procedure, and only 1 to 5 percent experience complications, according to LASIK surgery statistics and information from the FDA.
Are you a Candidate?
To determine whether or not you are a good candidate for LASIK, you will need to schedule a pre-LASIK eye examination with an Epic Vision LASIK surgeon. If your eye examination determines you are a candidate for LASIK, don’t let the cost of LASIK dissuade you from enjoying the sight you’ve always wanted. Many potential patients don’t realize there are several LASIK financing options available, and Epic Vision will help you find the best option for you and your financial situation.
